5 Questions With Our Licensed Nutritionist Marcie

What is 1 food you would choose to survive off of on a deserted island, in terms of nutrient-density?

I think what I would pick would be a coconut and hopefully, there would be some coconuts there.

What 1 food would you choose to survive on from purely taste alone?

Well, I love chocolate cake and more than chocolate cake, I love the icing that's on top. So I think that anytime I could possibly have some homemade chocolate cake with homemade icing, that is for sure what I would choose.

What is a spiritual or mindfulness practice that has really helped you the most?

Hot yoga. So a few years ago, my friends were like, you need to do yoga, you need to try it, you'll like it! And I just kind of said, no, I'm not gonna do it, I don't think it's my thing. And finally, about three years ago, I decided I was going to give it a go. So I did, and I fell in love with it. It really helps you kind of just come back to you.

If you could only do 1 type of activity for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I would choose something like walking or yoga, it's a quiet time. You're moving your body and you can kind of let go of things that maybe happened throughout the day, and it just gives you that time to relax. And walking is one of the best things for us to do.

What's the best piece of advice that you've received in your life?

A piece of advice that has resonated with me over time has just been to be true to yourself. We can care and we can worry about others. And you have all this stuff incoming and choices to make, difficult choices, or even just choices throughout the day. You have to kind of come back to yourself and think: what is right for me? What is gonna be the right move? And I really appreciate the thought of just being true to you. And when you are, I feel like you make the best choices not only for yourself, but for others as well because you've listened to you if you are a better person, then you can be a better person for those around you.
