5 Ways To Boost GLP 1 NATURALLY (instead of Ozempic)
Hi everyone. Welcome back to our channel.
What is GLP-1 and what is its role in the body?
What is Ozempic and what are some potential issues with it?
How can you activate GLP-1 naturally?
And then lastly, what role does GLP-1 play in weight management?
These are the questions that I'll be diving into in today's video.
Hi, I'm Katie Bailey. I'm a gut health dietician at Oswald Digestive Clinic, where we help individuals improve and resolve their bothersome gut issues.

What is GLP one and what is its role in the body?
GLP-1 is glucagon-like peptide one, and this is a hormone that is produced by our intestinal cells.
In the response to food intake, it stimulates the release of insulin and inhibits the release of glucagon, which is a hormone that raises our blood sugar.
It plays a crucial role in managing our blood sugar levels and regulating our appetite, making it a key player in weight management and metabolic health.
So when we consume food, GLP-1 is released and this signals the pancreas to release insulin.
Insulin then shuttles the glucose that's in our blood into our cells to be used for energy.
Additionally, GLP-1 slows down digestion and helping you feel fuller for longer.
It sends signals to various receptors throughout the body, including the brain, so it can induce satiety. So when we eat, the GLP-1 is released.
It sends a signal to your brain to let you know that you are full and to stop eating.
What is OZEMPIC and what are some potential issues with it?
So ozempic is a popular medication that's being used to treat type two diabetes, but it's also being used as for weight loss purposes as well.
It acts as a GLP-1 agonist, meaning that it's going to enhance receptor sites and act as the hormone itself helping to lower blood sugar and reduce appetite. It's also a once weekly injection.
Although ozempic has been found to be effective, it's not without potential side effects.
One of the most common side effects we see with ozempic is GI distress due to slowed gut motility.
So you see things like nausea, vomiting, gas, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation.
It also decreases your stomach acid, which then can lead to problems like heartburn, indigestion after eating food sensitivities, as well as increasing your risk for SIBO or candida.
Now, anytime there is a quick weight loss, we also see muscle loss, and so that can affect your metabolism.
Long-term, we want more muscle mass in order to help improve our metabolism, and it also helps to suppress your appetite.
The problem is sometimes your appetite can be suppressed too much, which is going to cause you to undereat.
Undereating can cause problems with your thyroid and your hormonal health and can lead to nutrient deficiencies that can cause further complications later.
Exploring natural alternatives to help boost your body's production of GLP one can provide similar benefits without the potential side effects of medications.
Okay, so now let's jump into:
How can you activate GLP-1 (GLP 1 Natural)?
Naturally, your body has the ability to produce GLP one, and there are various techniques that can help stimulate the production of GLP-1 and optimize its effects.
1) GLP 1 Natural: Balanced Meals
The first one is balanced meals.
So we already know that GLP-1 is released when we eat, but it's important to make sure that the meals are balanced.
So protein, healthy fats and fiber are all going to help to stimulate GLP-1 production and release, but it's also going to promote feelings of fullness and help regulate your blood sugar.
2) GLP 1 Natural: Healthy Bile Flow
The second thing is a healthy bile flow. So bile acids trigger the release of GLP-1 as well.
Bile is produced in the liver, stored in the gallbladder.
The gallbladder releases that bile bacteria then converts it into bile acids, which then trigger the release of GLP one.
So how do you improve bile flow?
Well, consuming bitter foods like arugula or dandelion greens or things like turmeric, ginger, sesame seeds, and cacao, all these things can help to improve that bile flow.
3) GLP 1 Natural: Probiotics
The third thing is probiotics.
So a healthy gut microbiome plays a crucial role in GLP one production and regulation.
Incorporating probiotics or probiotic rich foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt, or keefer, can support a balanced gut flora, which in turn can optimize GLP one and also including prebiotic fiber is important as this is going to help feed that beneficial bacteria and help them thrive.
The next thing is short chain fatty acids. Now, these are also going to help with GLP one production.
These are produced by our healthy gut bacteria.
Now, you're going to want to eat a diet that's full of fiber rich foods because this is going to help slow down digestion, but it's also going to provide that bacteria with a product that's needed to ferment into these short chain fatty acids and then promote the release of the GLP one.
4) GLP 1 Natural: Flavonoids
Now, the last thing I want to talk about is flavonoids.
And flavonoids are plant compounds that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but they also increase and enhance GLP one.
So this is going to be things like quercetin, which is found in blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries, grapes, apples, and red wine, curcumin, which is a compound that's found in turmeric, resveratrol found in grapes, wine, cacao and berries, and then also EGCG, which is found in matcha or green tea.
Now, there are also certain lifestyle factors like managing your stress levels, getting adequate sleep, and regular exercise.
These can also influence GLP-1 levels and optimize their effects.
So what role does GLP-1 play in weight management?
Well, GLP-1 plays a crucial role in weight management through its ability to reduce our appetite, promote feelings of fullness, and slow gastric emptying.
By optimizing GLP-1 levels, you can help support a healthy metabolism and potentially achieve sustainable weight loss and blood sugar control.
So to wrap up our topic for today, while medications like ozempic can be effective for weight loss, they don't come without potential side effects.
So choosing natural alternatives to help boost GLP-1, like eating balanced meals with protein, fiber, and healthy fats, enhancing our gut health through probiotics and prebiotic fibers, promoting a healthy bile flow and including high flavonoid foods, you can achieve similar benefits and promote overall health.
